    Year Round Succulents

Succulent plants are always in style. With juicy leaves, stems, or roots, succulents form a vast and diverse group of plants, offering easy-care choices for your home. Plus, they look stunning planted alone or as companions. If you’re looking for plants that are easy to care in the house or in the gardens Succulents are the way to go. They can remain beautiful year round even through those tough winters. Arkansas Gardens Carries several kinds of cactus, aloe, puya, agave and other succulents that will be great for your winter garden and even better once summer rolls around and gives way to spectacular blooms.  Here are some tips to get you started on your desert oasis.

    In The Garden:

    1. Succulents may be great for cold weather, but what kills them is sitting in wet soil.  Therefore the first step to keeping these plants alive and well year round is providing fast drainage or preventing water from gathering near the roots.
    2. The best way for this to happen is to have sandy soil, but since you may not be so lucky, replacing the top 3 feet of soil with a fast-draining sand gravel mix will do the trick.

    In The House:

    1. To pot the plants begin with a low bowl-shaped container and make sure to provide plenty of drainage holes.
    2. Once you’ve filled the container with cactus soil you then can begin filling the container with cactuses, agaves and other succulents that will begin to add variety and texture to your home.

Since most succulents are winter hardy, the cold dry temperatures will trigger blooming and therefore you should never water cactus until the spring arrives.  Your desert landscape and home accents should then soon be lit up with colorful flowers for most of the summer.
